After the XP 44, which was nominated for European Yacht of the Year, and the XP 38, the new XP 50 is the third model in the Performance series. And it is off to a good start. Within a year, 85 boats will be afloat, including four 50s. Respectable figures for a top-class shipyard. It would appear that the XP series is off to the same successful start as the XC cruising series in the previous two years.

And no wonder. Despite the focus on sporty sailing performance and the meticulous weight control right from the development phase, the performance cruisers from X-Yachts are fully-fledged cruising boats.

This applies even more to the new XP 50 than to its predecessors. The Danish shipyard, which also has a loyal clientele in the Mediterranean, offers the option of double biminis and a lightweight sprayhood that opens at the front. In the stern garage, the door of which can be lowered electrically to the bathing platform, there is storage space for an - albeit very small - dinghy (2.30 metres long).

Compared to the XP 44, the 50 offers only slightly more below deck in terms of functionality. It also has three double cabins and two heads compartments. However, the running surfaces, headroom and stowage spaces have grown noticeably. The tanks are located under the floorboards, which lowers the centre of gravity. The biggest advantage of the XP 50 is that a bosun can be accommodated in the bow if necessary. Otherwise, the space serves as a huge sail load.
